Michael Anderson talks with Dr. Dial about services that make sense for our aging population.

Dr. Lanyard K. Dial has been a leader in Family Medicine and Geriatric Medical Education.  He served as Director of the Family Practice Residency at the Ventura County Medical Center from 1987 – 2002. Since 1998, Dr. Dial has been a national leader in Geriatric Continuing Medical Education (CME) with the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP). He was Chairman of the Geriatric Review Course, developed, and taught the Geriatric section of the AAFPs Family Practice Board Exam Review Course. He has been a frequent lecturer for a number of other courses including many state chapters of the AAFP and at the annual AAFP national meeting.

Dr. Dial provides CMEs to local physicians at all Ventura County hospitals and has presented many educational seminars for citizens. He has served on the Physician Advisory Board of the Ventura County Alzheimer’s Association. In 1986, Dr. Dial became the Medical Director of Livingston Visiting Nurse Association and in 1986 he created Ventura County’s first Medicare Certified Hospice. In July of 2007, Dr. Dial became Livingston’s CEO/President and Medical Director and continues to serve in that capacity.

As a long-time Ventura County resident, he works to improve the quality of medical services for the elderly, homebound, and terminally ill. His goal is to ensure that patients in Ventura County have access to quality home health, compassionate hospice care, and vital in-home assistance.

Dr. Dial received his Medical Degree from Washington University School of Medicine in 1981. His academic honors include election to Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha societies. He is a Diplomat with the American Board of Family Practice (1984) and holds Certificates of Added Qualifications in both Geriatric Medicine and Hospice and Palliative Medicine. His faculty appointment is as a UCLA Associate Professor of Family Medicine.
